I attended Roan in 1969/70 as a first former visiting from California. Visited Greenwich at the time the school was being converted to apartments and cried the entire day. I also remember Ms. Vincent. We thought she was a bit nutty but a great teacher. Ms. Barber, Ms. Gatwick (Scatty Gatty) lots of great memories. I would love to track down my bestie Julie Secker if anyone knows where she is. Current name is Ann Gray.

Slightly disappointed that John Dennis didn't recognise me in the Prefects' football team or wearing a strange hat and someone else's mac in the Prefects' Room near the end of the collection. Mind you, I was somewhat more handsome then. By the way, I caught up with Monty Smith and Bernie Hampton in Leicester recently. How do they still do it? Real Old Roans that the OR A should be really proud of.

I have been meaning to do this for ages. Started in 1975 with Mr Hoare the French teacher - he gave me the name of Franciois! I was born in France so it sort of worked. I actually had a bad time and left in 1978 but kept in touch with a few people for a while - Simon Mills, Jimmy Cameron, Simon Cuffe to name a few. They were certainly the best times of a lifetime. I am now based in Bournemouth.

My brother told me about this site so I thought I would say hello to many friends from the past. After leaving the Roan in 1963 I went to Imperial College and then went to work in the Midlands. Started at the BSA, then SU Carburretors and from 1979 til retirement I worked for Land Rover. During this time I have not met any former pupils. One of the last times I spoke to Terry Barry was when we were running in the annual cross country race in Greenwich Park - we finished 13th and 14th from memory.

I just wanted to point out that I bumped into Arthur Smith a few weeks back as I was exiting Waitrose in Balham. I would like to flag up my admiration for Arthur and his considerable gifts as a comedian. I was fortunate enough to attend a gig he performed down at the Club about 4 years ago and had one of the best nights for years. If you read this Arthur - good on you mate - you are a star!

Rediscovered this site after some time and so sad to read about some of my contemporaries - I am now retired and living in Derby having recently had my cancerous prostate removed - just seen the photo of my old mate Brian Hamer which brought back fond memories of Christmas at Brian's parents house and the several trips to the pub across the road. I shall be pleased to hear from anyone who remembers me. My email is :-

I left Roan girls school 36 years ago. I loved miss Vincent. She was a scream, the only teacher who could handle me. I remember going to switzerland on a school trip and being up to real scandal. I think they were glad to see the back of me, although they never had the heart to actually expel me. I recall Mrs Scott telling me I was the sort of girl who beats up old women and leaves them to die ! This was after a punched Vijay, a brilliant very Ghandi groove, Indian girl who was genious at maths. If your reading this Vijay I would like to ask you to forgive me for thumping you. Glad to inform you that I now teach art and english in France. Spent six weeks in an orphanage in Lebanon this year with pupils that had been thrown out of every school. The boys would discuss weapons and run riot. I loved the beautiful library and it gave me a love of books (spent a lot of time there after being thrown out of class). No doubt some of my old class would remember me. After being the school yob I have transformed into a classic, cultured sophistication. Far from the psycho granny killer label stuck on me by the headmistress. But the rebel spirit lives on, I have redirected it in to martial arts (wing chun kung fu and Aikido). My old grand master Austin Goh recently wrote his biography (my journey) that has a chapter on me and says that I was the first woman to be taught outside of China.

Many thanks Bob Burton for the wonderful gallery http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/2296974175 .Very fond memories and great to see younger versions of Ray Stone, Steve Rider, Richard Hitchens, Graham Johnson, Steve Nelson, Viv Lawrence etc but mainly of Tony Slaney - embedding that love of the lakes. How many more do you have?
